One of our favorite places to visit during the summer is the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park. They have plenty of exhibits to keep you and your family entertained, including special activities for the adults when the sun goes down.
The zoo recently welcomed its first pair ever of golden lion tamarins. These beautiful monkeys weigh only around one pound. Their distinctive bright orange mane of fur is in stark contrast to their home in the bright green trees. Nine-year-old Tam and four-year-old Madison made their debut on May 25th and have settled in nicely.
Another pair of monkeys you won’t want to miss are siblings Sid and Sahra, who are Mueller’s grey gibbons. Sahra was just born on January 23rd, joining her brother who recently turned one on April 30th. Sahra is only the 18th grey gibbon in the US, so she’s a very important little girl! Make sure to greet them and their parents, Shannon and Sterling, on your next visit.
If all that “monkeying around” has the kiddos craving some animal contact, the Children’s Zoo has it covered! Kids of all ages can enter the contact yard to pet sheep, goats, and other animals. They can also learn more about exotic animals and find out what it’s like to be a bird.
