With cooler weather, our thoughts are turning to hot apple cider and hot chocolate to warm us up on cold days. Preparing these treats is something the whole family can participate in, and you might even want to make it a brand-new Fall tradition.
Prepare a big batch of cocoa mix to have ready. It’s easy to make and tastes much better than store bought packets. Adding some chopped chocolate makes it have a richer, deeper chocolate flavor. You can even add peppermint extract, ground cinnamon, a little cayenne pepper, or some espresso powder for that extra kick. Make sure you have plenty of marshmallows on hand too! Here’s a great recipe that gives customization information and makes 10-12 servings.
Apple cider is something that seems like it would be difficult to make but is actually really simple. You’ll want to assemble quality spices, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, allspice, and freshly grated nutmeg. Get some good quality one hundred percent apple juice, some fresh fruit, and some brown sugar. Here’s a great recipe that will make you feel like you’ve just picked a bushel of apples at the orchard.
